Everything You Need to Know VS Sheffield Steeldogs: National Cup Semi-Final
MINI MATCH PREVIEW
The Knights enjoyed a week of winning last weekend, with victories over the Hull Seahawks and Swindon Wildcats in league competition, and a 5-2 win over the Sheffield Steeldogs in the first leg of the National Cup Semi-Final. The Steeldogs had 3-games in 3 nights, beginning with the aforementioned loss to the Leeds Knights and ending with a 5-3 victory of the Telford Tigers – with a loss to the Peterborough Phantoms in between.
The Steeldogs have to recover a 3-goal deficit, which is a hard feat to overcome on any occasion, let alone in a packed Castle that is sure to be bouncing as we look to achieve our second Final in as many years.
ONES TO WATCH
The Ones to Watch for the Sheffield Steeldogs is a veteran of the game in the UK, and a highly decorated ex-EIHLer, #17 Jason Hewitt.
Jason made his return to the Steeldogs from injury last week, and will be no doubt be looking to make a huge impact on the ice to do everything he can to help his team get through to the finals. No matter the season or the club, the 39-year old has performed at above a 2-points per game pace, and for that, he’s definitely ‘One to Watch’.
The Morley Glass Leeds Knights ones to watch this week is… #12 Kieran Brown
Our captain has had a brilliant month in January, and he’ll be looking to continue his impressive scoring rate in tonight’s semi-final to try and maintain our 3-goal aggregate lead against Friday night’s visitors. In 7 games this month, Kieran has posted 6 goals and 10 assists and leads the way for the Knights on the month at an impressive 2.3PPG.
NATIONAL CUP BREAKDOWN
The National Cup top 4 was decided after every team had hosted each of the 10 other teams in the league, and that game had been played. Following each team completing their 20 games, that were also league fixtures, a top 4 was established.
We finished on top of the standings, followed by Peterborough Phantoms, MK Lightning and our semi-final opponents, the Sheffield Steeldogs.
MK and Peterborough faced-off last Thursday, in a close-fought 1-0 game that saw the Phantoms leave the Thunderdome with a 1-goal advantage ahead of their second-leg, that is also set to be played on the 27th. Following Friday’s games, the 2 finalists will be confirmed and a date for the two legs of the Final being announced as soon as possible.
POST-GAME PLAYER SIGNINGS:
With our late face-off of 7:30pm, there will unfortunately be no player signings at Friday’s game, but the signings will return on Saturday 4th February against MK Lightning.
