New Owners for Leeds National Ice Hockey League Team

Planet Ice is pleased to announce that Steve Nell will own and operate the Leeds National Ice Hockey League team from May 1st 2021. Steve has recently stepped back from his role as General Manager at Swindon Wildcats and is now looking to take on the challenge of developing a new and exciting proposition for the National League icing out of Planet Ice in Leeds from this forthcoming season onwards.

Chief Operations Officer Heath Rhodes commented ‘This is a great opportunity to develop a strong identity and prominence in the North for British Ice Hockey. Steve has excellent credentials, and we feel his experience and knowledge of the game will ensure that the Leeds ice hockey supporters have a team they can continue to be proud of into the future.

Nell also has a key role in the NIHL National team owners’ group and was instrumental in the success of the recent streaming series for the Spring Cup, collaborating with team owners to get players back onto the ice through what has been an incredibly difficult time for all crowd participating sports over the last 12 months.

Rhodes continued ‘This new arrangement will ensure longevity for quality Ice Hockey in Leeds and the rest of the North. Steve and his family have a great passion for the sport, and we know he will develop an excellent community programme to establish strong grassroots, a successful academy, and a strong National team that Leeds fans can be proud of’.
