Knights Secure Place in National Cup Final + 4-point Weekend!

Leeds Knights tame Sheffield Steeldogs to secure final showdown against Peterborough Phantoms

Trailing 5-2 from last week’s first leg of this NIHL National Cup final, Sheffield Steeldogs had a mountain to climb when they arrived at Elland Road for the return encounter.

It looked like they were going to pull it off, too, when they found themselves 2-0 ahead with just over 18 minutes gone.

But, as they have done on so many occasions this season, the Knights responded in typical free-scoring fashion, scoring twice in a minute to tie the game up on the night and restore their three-goal overall lead.

Dates are not yet confirmed for the National Cup final, but the opponents are. Knights will face Peterborough Phantoms over 2 legs.

Followed by two brilliant displays to grab 4-points in the league and re-claim the top spot.

Leeds continued where they left off against the Steeldogs on Friday night when they too recorded a four-point weekend to emerge as standalone leaders once more.

The 5-4 overtime win at title rivals Milton Keynes Lightning will certainly have helped, Matt Haywood getting the decisive marker in the spell of 3-on-3 which was made possible after Kieran Brown levelled the game with just 53 seconds of regulation remaining.

Thomas Barry was the Knights’ other scorer.

On Sunday, they hammered hosts and defending regular season champions Telford Tigers 8-4. Brown, Jake Witkowski and Zach Brooks all grabbed two goals apiece, with Cole Shudra and Mac Howlett also beating Brad Day.
