Leeds Knights join forces with Trident Fitness
For the first time, the Morley Glass Leeds Knights are partnering with Trident Fitness, offering the players a unique gym experience, and we couldn’t be more delighted with the outcomes.
Trident Fitness Director, Chris Walsh, contacted the club at the end of last season and expressed a desire to be part of the Leeds Knights. Having been a fan at several games, Chris explained he had “loved” what was being created down at Planet Ice Leeds and he wanted to know how he and his team could help.
Managing Director of the Leeds Knights, Warwick Andrews said:
To be fair, I was blown away by Chris’s enthusiasm and passion for wanting to support us. Yet it was his understanding of creating conditioning programmes for athletes that were specific to their sport that captured me. Chris didn’t want Trident Fitness to be a gym where the players go for a workout, he wanted to develop a programme that would improve their game.
After some initial conversations about how we could work together, Chris introduced Co-Director Joe Gledhill, who is the technical specialist and self-confessed “conditioning geek”. A partnership was agreed and in collaboration with Head Coach, Ryan Aldridge, a way of working together was mapped out. The players are now spending regular team sessions at Trident Fitness, and it has been a valuable part of the pre-season preparation for the 2022-23 Planet Ice NIHL National Division.
Trident Fitness Co-Owner, Joe Gledhill said:
This partnership is such an exciting move for us and for me personally, to work alongside a massively experienced coach, staff, as well as unbelievably talented, driven players is nothing short of a dream.
Ice hockey is a fast paced, physically demanding sport. Helping the team with all aspects of performance, recovery and nutrition is a responsibility we don’t take lightly.
For me this is all about being available to each and every player, helping them be the best they can be, either from a strength and conditioning standpoint or nutrition – in conjunction with delivering group sessions to help the overall fitness and movement but also cohesion and teamwork they need to excel on the ice. The players are eager to put on an amazing show this season and primed for success.
Having prepared over the summer for a new partnership, Trident Fitness stepped up again and asked if they could do more! Having been impressed at the Knights’ first Launch Event on the August Bank Holiday, they offered to sponsor new import and star of the pre-season Zach Brooks!
Leeds Knights Head Coach, Ryan Aldridge said:
It’s great to have Trident onboard with us this year. Not only are they looking after the boys’ workout programmes and leading the team gym sessions on Tuesdays, they are taking care of our player’s nutrition which I believe will have a massive impact later in the year.
The team gym sessions are functional, fun and team based. The lads are enjoying a workout that’s a break from the norm.
We are genuinely delighted to have found such enthusiastic partners in Trident Fitness and look forward to evolving our relationship over the course of the season. We couldn’t be happier with our partnership with a local business like Trident Fitness, who are also helping us achieve our desire to establish strong links with the community – they are quickly becoming Leeds Knights ‘Ambassadors’ in the Morley and South Leeds area.
