The Morley Glass Leeds Knights battled to a 3–0 victory over the Romford Raiders on Saturday night, but Head Coach Ryan Aldridge was quick to stress that the scoreline didn’t reflect just how tight the contest was.
Aldridge credited the performance of both netminders, highlighting that Romford made the Knights work for every inch before two late power play goals sealed the points.
“We had lots of opportunities, but he (Ceci) was big,” Aldridge said. “We weren’t so good in the second period, but the boys found a way to win.”
Despite not feeling the Knights were at their best, Aldridge emphasised the importance of grinding out results as the season rolls on.
“I didn’t think we had our best performance again tonight… but still, we’re collecting points. The boys are collecting points still. So yeah, we’re hanging in there.”
A huge part of the win was another stellar performance from goaltender Sam Gospel, who turned aside all 44 shots he faced to secure a shutout and a Man of the Match nod. Aldridge once again praised his consistency and competitive edge.
“We’re talking about him every week… I think he thrives in that environment, he wants to be better than the other guy at the other end. We know we’re lucky to have him.”
