Leeds Knights Lock Up Homegrown Talent Edgars Vengis on Three Year Deal
The Morley Glass Leeds Knights are delighted to announce that forward Edgars Vengis has committed his future to the club, signing a three-year contract that will keep the exciting young prospect at Elland Road Ice Arena for the foreseeable future.
At just 17-years-old, Vengis represents one of the most exciting young talents to emerge from the Knights' renowned junior programme, and the club wasted no time in securing his signature for the long term.
Vengis first arrived at Leeds Knights in 2021, joining the club's junior setup and has been part of the setup ever since. Born in Latvia but raised through the British junior system, Vengis has grown significantly as a player and understands the demands and pace of the game at this level, and that foundation was on full display across a breakthrough 2025/26 campaign.
Edgars Vengis made his senior debut with the Leeds Knights in 2024/25, however, this season he took his game to another level. The teenager recorded an impressive 22 points in 49 appearances, highlighting just how far he has come. His performances earned him opportunities on the top line in several key games, showing the trust the coaching staff have placed in him at such a young age.
But it wasn't just his offensive contributions that impacted the Knights game. This season saw Vengis grow into a physical presence on the roster, asserting himself in battles along the boards and bringing an edge to his game that suggests a player rapidly maturing into a complete forward.
Head Coach Ryan Aldridge is delighted with the signing and said: “Edgars has really stepped up again this season! For a player still only 17, he is quickly becoming a very trusted member of the team and I am confident in his ability is all areas of the rink. The three-year deal is great for both the club and Edgars as we plan for the future and he continues to develop in what i believe are his crucial years. I think the Leeds Knights is the start of what promises to be a very and exciting career for Eddy and we are excited to see how his future evolves.”
On signing with the Knights, Vengis said: “I am really pleased to be signing back with the Knights for the next three years, I have really enjoyed my time here so far. Especially playing in front of the fans, they make playing hockey in Leeds an easy decision. I am excited to continue working with a great group of lads who are hungry to win, along with a coach who wants to help me develop. I truly believe our group have what it takes to achieve something special as a team. Hopefully, we can bring some silverware back to the club in the years to come ahead.”
Everyone at Leeds Knights is thrilled to have Edgars committed to the club, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for one of our own. Welcome back, Edgars.
