Leeds Knights had to dig deep to get victory against Telford Tigers. A back and forth encounter saw both teams have periods of dominance before Knights new boy Matt Bissonnette sealed the victory in the 3rd period with 2 goals.
Period 1: Leeds start well
Matt Barron continued his great early season scoring form with the first goal of the game at 05:31. Telford Tigers hit back with a goal of their own at 09:00 scored by Devon Skoleski. The Knights regained control of the game late in the first period with 2 quick goals, Mac Howlett scoring at 15:14 before he assisted Leeds’ 3rd goal scored by Finn Bradon at 18:07, to end the period with a 1-3 lead.
Period 2: Tigers hit back
Jake Price pulled a goal back for the Tigers less than a minute into the 2nd period timed at 20:59. However Matt Barron got his 2nd goal of the game at 22:32 to restore Leeds’ 2 goal lead. The Tigers then hit back with 2 quick goals of their own to level up the score. Both goals were scored on the power play first by Zachary Yokoyama at 25:45 followed by Scott McKenzie at 26:30. The Knights showed character to stop the Telford attack and kept the score level at 4-4 at the end of the 2nd period.
Period 3: Leeds finish strong
The third period saw the Knights get back on the attack and Matt Bissonnette put the Knights back in front, scoring at 45:47. As Telford Tigers pulled their netminder in search of an equaliser Matt Bissonnette broke away and got his 2nd goal of the night into the empty net at 59:17 with the game finishing 4-6.
Summary: A different way to win
The Knights stood tall in the face of adversity to pick up the victory tonight. Keeping their composure as Telford fought back to level the scores in the 2nd period to regain and hold the lead in the 3rd period to make it back to back 4 point weekends to open the season.
