The Morley Glass Leeds Knights are Playoff Champions!
In an action-packed weekend of hockey in the Planet Ice NIHL National Division, the Leeds Knights came out on top of the post-season showdowns for another piece of silverware!
Becoming Playoff Champions is the cherry on top of the cake, after an incredible second season for the Leeds Knights that saw us become League Champions just one month ago in Telford. Celebrations were in full swing and it was great to have so much support in Coventry this weekend as well as throughout the entire season, your support has been unbelievable and for that we thank you!
In the Semi-Finals on Saturday, the Sheffield Steeldogs and Raiders IHC kicked things off in the early face-off, with our Yorkshire Rivals getting stunned by the 6th place Raiders, a last-gasp winner scored in the final minute of the game being the difference between the two sides.
We had the later face-off, where we took on the Telford Tigers, a team that last season won the league, as well as handing us our first loss of the season this year. Everything was on the line in this one-off game and both teams came to play!
The game finished 7-6, with some incredible skill on display for a true spectacle of hockey, with both teams finding themselves in the driving seat throughout the game, but the Knights coming out on top after captain #12 Kieran Brown grabbed the game winner at 52:58 with a superb finish on the breakaway.
Sunday saw us face the Raiders in the Playoff Final, a team freshly off the back of beating the Peterborough Phantoms and the Sheffield Steeldogs. The game started with the Knights firing 3 goals past Ethan James in the first 3:38 of the game, but the Raiders were by no means out of it as they fought back and found themselves within 1-goal in the 54th minute.
Despite their best efforts, the Leeds Knights stood tall with their backs against the wall and came out on top to be crowned Planet Ice NIHL National Division Playoff Champions!
