THE ACTION EXPLAINED

THE RULES & THE LEAGUE

While the action on the ice moves fast, the main objective is perfectly simple: shoot the puck past the opposing netminder to score the most goals. What makes ice hockey so special is that anyone can enjoy it without knowing every single rule.

The Leeds Knights compete in the National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) National Division. As the second tier of UK ice hockey, the NIHL is a highly competitive league packed with fast-paced skill, intense rivalries, and incredible talent.

The unique buzz of the arena makes it a brilliant night out for absolute beginners and seasoned supporters alike.

FAST, THRILLING & ACTION-PACKED

Get ready for a high-speed, adrenaline-fueled experience. A standard match features three 20-minute periods separated by two interval breaks. Because the game clock stops for every whistle, you are guaranteed exactly 60 minutes of pure, uninterrupted hockey.

Both teams field six players at a time: one netminder and five skaters. Players substitute 'on the fly' without the game stopping, meaning fresh legs are constantly hitting the ice so the relentless pace never drops.

If the score is deadlocked after 60 minutes, the tension rises with sudden-death overtime. If a winner still hasn't emerged, brace yourself for a shootout: a nerve-wracking, one-on-one showdown between skater and netminder to clinch the overtime victory.

ENTERTAINMENT

Our game nights include a variety of entertainment and competitions. Updates can be found on our website and social media channels.

We are always working on new ways to enhance the game night experience, so stay tuned to our social channels for announcements.

GAME NIGHT COMPETITIONS

Our match night 50/50 & Shirt Off The Back sellers will have additional contactless machines for you to purchase competition tickets with. They will accept cash, but the contactless machines will allow you to pay in a contact-free if you would prefer it. Shirts will be washed and available for collection the next week and there will no longer be a photo with the player. Tickets for all competitions can also be purchased at the merchandise stand, including the chuck-a-pucks.

50/50 DRAW

The 50/50 competition is available to take part in at ALL home games. Its only £1 per ticket, and the more you buy the bigger the prize! It is a great way to support your favourite ice hockey team as well as having a chance to take home a huge cash prize every week!

With 50% of all proceeds going towards the club, the other 50% is won by a lucky fan that took part in the draw! Keep your eyes peeled on our social media accounts before games in case we have any special 50/50 prizes!

50/50 sellers will be wearing bright blue Hi-Vis vests with Knights logos, if you don’t see them then you’ll definitely hear them shouting around the rink! The winner is announced during a break in play in the 3rd period, with the prize available for collection immediately after the game.

SHIRT OFF THE PLAYER'S BACK

SHIRT OFF THE PLAYER'S BACK

The Shirt off the back competition, SOTB for short, gives you a chance to get a piece of Leeds Knights history!

Tickets for SOTB are £2, and at every game, a specific player’s shirt will be up for grabs!

If you win, you will receive the player’s game-worn jersey (once it’s been cleaned of course!). Also, just like the 50/50 draw, keep your eyes peeled on social media for special prizes and guarantees!

CHUCK-A-PUCK

Our Chuck-A-Puck competition involves everyone's favourite Mascot... Leo!

Leo stands at centre ice at the beginning of the second intermission and when the countdown reaches zero, you've got to CHUCK THOSE PUCKS!

The aim of the game is to get the puck as close to Leo as possible.

Loads of prizes each week:

  • Closest puck wins a £50 merchandise voucher
  • Cash prize if you get your puck into the golden bucket!

KEY INFORMATION & RULES

  • Foam Pucks can be purchased under Block 1, for £1 each.
  • It is important to remove the number ticket that is stuck to the puck, as prizes cannot be claimed without the winning ticket!
  • Listen to the announcer for safety instructions before throwing the puck.
  • Fans seated in the balcony must throw from the barrier, not from their seats.
  • All pucks should be thrown before the end of the allotted time (there will be a countdown).
