The Morley Glass Leeds Knights are elated to be able to announce our first import signing for the 24/25 season, with the return of fan-favourite, #37 MATT BARRON!
Matt joined us ahead of the 23/24 season and he lived up to the expectations and more, with a phenomenal 200-ft game that saw him excel at both ends of the ice. Barron never missed a game, icing on 68 occasions including battling a gruelling injury during the final weeks of the season, his commitment to the team saw his teammates award him the Player’s Player Season Award, with Head Coach Ryan Aldridge recognising his impact with the honour of the Coach’s Player of the Season Award.
In his 64 competitive appearances, Matt scored 39 goals and added 45 assists to his points tally, including 8 goals and 6 assists on our way to the Playoff Final and 1 Hat-Trick too! These impressive numbers saw him finish fourth in scoring on the team, but if there was a tally of how many blocked shots he made, he would be second to only #31.
We caught up with Matt, who made his feelings on his return very clear - “I’m super excited to be back at The Castle for another year! It was an easy decision to return with such a good group of guys backed by the best fans in the league. Winning the league last year was special, hopefully we can accomplish that and more this year!”
After speaking to Head Coach Ryan Aldridge in an interview earlier in the week he mentioned how happy he was with the cohort that had been re-signed so far, with Matt Barron fully encompassing that positivity – “Filling one of our import slots with Matt was never a question, his work rate and attitude both on and off the ice is incredible and he was a huge part of who we were off the ice as well as on it. He did everything we asked of him and more and massively lived up to expectations and I’m looking forward to bringing him back and working with him again this September.”
