The Castle's Last Line of Defence is Going Nowhere as Sam Gospel Commits for Another Year. Sam Gospel, the man between the pipes at The Castle, has put pen to paper for the 2026/27 season.
The news will come as no surprise to those who have watched Gospel grow into one of the most respected British netminders. Now entering his 7th season in Leeds, Gospel has become as synonymous with the club itself.
Since joining the Knights, Gospel has been a key contributor to the team, helping the club secure three consecutive PINIHL National Division titles, a play-offs title and the National Cup.
Head Coach Ryan Aldridge is delighted to secure Gospel for another season, saying: "Gossy is a huge part of Leeds Knights. What he has given this club over the years both on the ice, in the dressing room, has been massive. We're building again next season and having Sam at the back gives us a great starting point.”
Sam Gospel has cemented his reputation as one of the most reliable goaltenders in the Planet Ice NIHL National League as he has consistently delivered strong performances for the Leeds Knights. So far this season, he has featured in 50 games, recording 30 wins along the way. Across those appearances, Gospel has maintained an impressive save percentage above 91% in all competitions, underlining his reliability in net.
On re-signing with the Knights, Sam said: “I couldn’t be happier to re-sign with the knights for another season, I’ve been lucky to call Leeds home for a while now, and I’m excited to be part of what we’re building here. We’ve had huge amounts of success during my time here and I only want to add to that. The club, staff, volunteers and fans are incredible. They all do an amazing job creating an atmosphere to succeed and perform. It’s a wonderful place to place and call home so I’m glad to be back for another season.”
Everyone at the Morley Glass Leeds Knights is delighted to welcome Sam back for the 2026/27 season and looks forward to seeing him continue to play a key role in the team’s success both on and off the ice.
