The Morley Glass Leeds Knights are delighted to announce the return of Matt Bissonnette for the 2026/27 NIHL National League season.
Since arriving in Leeds from the Sheffield Steeldogs ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, Bizz has established himself as a fan favourite at The Castle, and a hugely influential figure within the Knights changing room being a true leader both on and off the ice. Bringing with him a wealth of experience from both the NIHL and EIHL, the Canadian’s playmaking ability and winning mentality has proven invaluable to the club’s continued success.
In his first season in blue and yellow, Bissonnette recorded 115 points and helped Ryan Aldridge’s side to claim another league title, and the first National Cup in the club’s history.
He followed that success with another outstanding campaign in a Knights jersey, playing a pivotal part in the team being crowned play-off champions last year. He finished the season as the club’s highest-scoring import, and second overall highest-scoring players, sitting only behind Kieran Brown, scoring 57 points in 50 games. His 39 assists were the most of any Leeds player throughout the season, highlighting how he continues to be a threat in front of goal through not only scoring, but setting up scoring opportunities too.
When it mattered most, he delivered once again, and on the biggest stage of the season. During the play-offs, Bizz registered ten points – four goals and six assists – including the game-winning goal in the Knights’ semi-final victory over the Sheffield Steeldogs, and the opening goal in the play-off final against the Hull Seahawks.
Known for his exceptional hockey IQ, professionalism and leadership, and ability to create chances for those around him, Bizz continues to be one of the league’s most dangerous offensive players. He is a constant in the Knights’ forward group and was awarded Forward of the Year at the End of Season Awards Night.
Head Coach Ryan Aldridge said: “Bizz is our mature head, a leader in the room and on the ice. His vision is second to none and he can score when needed. Biz scored some big gaols for us this year, can play in all situations and is one of those guys that you can’t imagine not being around the club. That’s why it was so important to have him back. It was a quick conversation; Bizz wants to be here and we don’t want him to leave.”
On his re-signing, Bizz said: “After two incredible seasons in Leeds, when Ryan asked if I’d come back for a third, there was never any hesitation.
My teammates, the organization, and most of all the fans make the Castle the best place to play. My family and I are so excited for Year 3, and we can’t wait to see you all in September. Let’s go!”
Bizz is an integral part of the culture that has been built in Leeds over the past few years, and we can’t wait to welcome him back as we challenge for more silverware during the 2026/27 campaign.
Matt Bissonnette will be proudly sponsored by Saxon Security.
