The 2026/27 season has got off to a flying start for the Morley Glass Leeds Knights off the ice with attendances continuing to rise as supporters turn out in increasing numbers.
An incredible response from fans throughout pre-season has carried into the opening weeks of the campaign, with The Castle welcoming huge crowds and creating an atmosphere that underlines just how much appetite there is for ice hockey in Leeds.
This can be seen in the figures with the average attendance occupancy across the opening six home games (two pre-season and four league fixtures) rising from 67% capacity at the same stage last season, to an impressive 80% this year.
Building on the success of last season, there has also been a 25% increase in season ticket holders, showing the growing support for ice hockey in Leeds and the excitement surrounding the club.
The numbers reflect the growing connection between the team and its supporters, with fans continuing to make The Castle on a game night the place to be. And with the season still in its early stages, there is plenty more to come.
Alongside the growth in attendances, improvements to the rink are continuing to take place to enhance the experience for supporters. The addition of a new sound system and the new big screen during the summer has already provided an upgrade to the match night environment, giving fans another way to get involved in the action.
Further improvements will be taking place this month with Planet Ice installing new lighting and dehumidifiers to further improve the rink’s facilities and overall match night offering.
This represents a positive step for the venue and our fans, complementing the growing enthusiasm around the Knights.
Sam Hinchliffe, Group Director of Business Operations, said: "It’s fantastic to see the continued growth in support for the Morley Glass Leeds Knights, with rising attendances and a significant increase in season ticket holders reflecting the enthusiasm for ice hockey in Leeds. Our supporters play a huge part in creating the atmosphere at The Castle, and we’re incredibly grateful for the backing they give the team every game night.
“We’re also pleased to see continued investment in the rink and the match-night experience. The improvements made so far, alongside those planned for the coming weeks, will help us continue to build on the momentum we’re seeing both on and off the ice. We’re excited about what the rest of the season holds and look forward to welcoming even more supporters to The Castle.”
The support has been incredible so far this season and we look forward to welcoming even more fans through the door as the season continues. We would like to thank every supporter who has attended so far and continues to make the atmosphere at The Castle what it is. You’re our sixth player during those tough games and we greatly appreciate your support.
