Leeds Knights endured a frustrating weekend, falling to two narrow defeats against Basingstoke Bison and Sheffield Steeldogs.
Saturday night saw the Knights take their home clash against Basingstoke into overtime before losing 3-2, followed by another 3-2 defeat on the road against Sheffield on Sunday.
The Knights welcomed Basingstoke Bison to The Castle on Saturday night, with the visitors opening the scoring through Mac Howlett at 8:35. Bison went on to take a two-goal lead into the third period, but Leeds responded on a powerplay at 45:38 as Sam Dunn found the net, assisted by Kieran Brown, to bring the Knights level.
Owen Sobchak struck at 57:55, once again assisted by Brown, to make it 2-2 and force overtime.
However, the decisive moment came at 63:30, when Brendan Sellan scored for Basingstoke to secure a 3-2 victory for the visitors.
Despite the disappointment of the late defeat, the Knights showed determination to fight their way back into the contest and take the game beyond regulation time, claiming a point.
Leeds travelled to face Sheffield Steeldogs on Sunday.
The hosts struck twice in quick succession during the opening period, with Walker Sommer opening the scoring at 9:15 before Bailey Yates added a second at 9:37.
The Knights responded with two goals of their own to bring the game level. Matthew Bissonnette got Leeds on the board at 16:23, assisted by Cullen McLean and Kieran Brown, before Sam Dunn scored on the power play at 18:50, with Liam Peyton and Brown providing the assists.
With the scores tied at 2-2 heading into the latter stages, the game remained finely balanced. However, Sheffield found the decisive goal at 55:29 through Oliver Knaggs, assisted by David Phillips and Michael Pelech, handing the hosts a 3-2 victory.
It was another narrow defeat for Leeds, who had battled back from two goals down to put themselves in a position to take something from the game.
Next up for the Knights is a weekend of road fixtures against the Swindon Wildcats and Basingstoke Bison, before returning home to The Castle on Friday 23rd October against Solway IHC, 7pm face-off.
