The Morley Glass Leeds Knights opened their 2026/27 league campaign with a sold-out Castle on Friday night in a tight 2-1 defeat against the Hull Seahawks.
The evening began with a special celebration of last season's success, as the Knights' Play-Off Championship banner was revealed inside The Castle ahead of face-off.
With a packed building creating a brilliant atmosphere, the Knights and Seahawks got the new league campaign underway with an intense Yorkshire derby.
Hull opened the scoring at 09:59, with Beau Reader finding the net, assisted by Noah Kääriäinen.
The Seahawks then extended their advantage at 13:23, as Johnny Corneil scored, with Joshua Hodgkinson and Lee Bonner providing the assists.
The second period also saw plenty of physicality, typical of a Yorkshire derby but it wasn’t until the third period that the Knights would get on the scoresheet.
Ryan Aldridge’s side continued to battle throughout the third period and eventually found the back of the net on the power play att 54:42 through Edgars Vengis to make it 2-1, with Cullen McLean providing the assist.
The Knights continued to press through the final five minutes of the game, but Hull held on to take the opening points of the league campaign.
Despite the result, the Knights were backed by an outstanding crowd inside a sold-out Castle, with the atmosphere providing a fitting backdrop to the raising of the Play-Off Championship banner and the start of a new season.
The Knights now turn their attention to their next league fixture as they look to get their first points of the 2026/27 campaign.
We’re back at The Castle on Saturday 26th September against the Peterborough Phantoms.
