It was a busy weekend for the LK2 players with seven of them appearing for the Knights in the victory over Peterborough on Saturday, followed by a trip to Nottingham in NIHL 1.
In what was an ultimately frustrating evening, LK2 were defeated 7-2 by a well-organised Lions team with most of the damage being done in the first period.
After some good early powerplay pressure by the Knights, a poor line change allowed Luke Birchnall to score shorthanded. The Knights continued to push, but defensively mistakes were being punished as Theo Thomas, Dan Fadejevs and Jack Crowston all found the net.
The push back eventually came as Josh Hartley found Lawrence Dean in space and he fired home to get the Knights on the board. Despite trailing 4-1, LK2 had the bulk of the shots, outshooting the hosts 16-12.
Thomas needed just 37 seconds of period 2 to grab his second of the game. But Knights’ performance was improving and Evan Bradon scored a backdoor tap in after combining well with Hartley.
Nottingham sealed the victory, adding two more in the final period to guarantee the points for the Lions.
LK2 captain Connor Lewis remains upbeat about the way the team is performing: “It was a disappointing result, for us, but credit to Nottingham they made the most of the chances we gave them.
“We are a young team, but we are also a team which is learning, and what has impressed me is the fight and heart that we have shown throughout. Even at 7-2 down, as group we are still going hard, trying to find the next goal to get back into the game."
Knights II begin the month of October, when they play six times at the Castle, with the league champion Blackburn Hawks in town.
“This coming weekend is going to be another tough test for us against Blackburn, but we have already shown this season we can skate with anyone in this league and cause them problems.” Lewis added.
“As a team we know the identity we need to play with to be successful and as we move into the second month of the season, we are getting a bit more consistent at doing that in all three zones and over the past two matches we have created loads more chances because of it.”
LK2 are offering all 6 games in October for £50. Keep an eye on social media this week for details of how you can get that offer.
